A STORY FOR A FOREVER HOME 😺🐢

Have you ever thought of turning your kids into heroes? Because with “A story for a forever home” project, that what we’re going to do.Β

I’m Elodie, the co-founder of MyNabes’ app, a supportive and funny space for parents to meet and I’m working as a volunteer on a project that would allow shelter cats to have every chance of being adopted by making your kids their heroes.

WHY THIS PROJECT?

I’m overwhelmed by the huge list of animals surrendered by their owner and/or found as strays.

We must take action and educate the younger generations. How did we come to dispose of a dog or a cat as we dispose of a toy or a piece of clothing when it is no longer useful to us?Β

WHAT IS THE GOAL?

The idea behind “A story for a forever home” project is to invite families to come to the shelter but also to create a partnership with local schools to offer classes between 3rd and 5th grade to come to the shelter and then draw and tell the story of a cat (mostly adult and senior cats) that will have been previously assigned to each of the students or a group of students. It would also be an opportunity to educate them and make them aware of animal welfare so that future generations are more responsible than the current ones.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The students will have to draw their cat and then tell their story through questions that we will have prepared for them beforehand (I have attached an example) and we will use a theme like Thanksgiving, Christmas, President Day, Easter… to make things even more adorable.

We will then highlight each of these cats on social media (Instagram and Facebook) through the drawings and stories written by the students and we will inform the class when a cat is adopted.

WHO ARE YOU WORKING WITH?

I’m currently working with Erin Gettis, the Director of the Riverside County Department of Animal Services and her team but my goal is to spread the word and implement this project in many other shelters across the US for both cats and dogs!
